Sorry to tell everyone that the Nest has shut down. They closed several months ago.

The Squirrel Nest Restaurant is my families' favorite place to come to together in a cozy, quaint setting with excellent mom-like cooking. We love the waiters. They are on the spot, but not bothersome. I would eat there just for the food, but try sitting on the screened in porch with your family looking out at the natural beauty of this little nest in the woods-aaahhh. If you're real country try the breakfast with fried bologna-hmmm, hmmm. The country ham is scrumptious too.

Don't get the bacon! It is awful.
They used to have a girl waitress who was great. Now they have a boy who is sloppier and not nearly as good.
It used to be a treat to go here for breakfast. Now it's just like any other restaurant.

Max is right..don't get the bacon. It's cold and overcooked. I haven't been to the "Nest" for a few months and noticed the staff was not nearly as good as it used to be. There has also been another price increase. It is still a bit better than places like Waffle House though.

I ordered the pancake platter. It came with eggs, bacon and obviously pancakes.
The bacon was over done. The scrambled eggs were a little crispy around the edges (too done). The pancakes were great...the thick fluffy variety.
Parking spaces were full, so that tells you that many people like it.

Better than most chains. Staff seems to be a little short handed but adequate.

Best and largest omelet I've ever had. A giant ham & cheese omelet cooked perfectly with a side of biscuits and gravy is only $4.50. Very few can eat it all in one sitting.

As a person who travels often with the military and find myself eating in many different cafe's, diners and restaurants, I feel I am more than qualified to comment on the Squirrel Nest. If you happen to venture into the cozy home turned into an eatery, you will be amazed at the quality of food, friendliness of the staff and the many customers who will invite you to join them at the table. There has not been one stranger enter the "Nest", since everyone goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The food is cooked with a down home taste that is sure to have you coming back again. From the simple eggs, meat and hashbrown plates, the bacon, ham or sausage platters, to the infamous "Big Squirrel" Plate, you will find something on the menu for everyone. I have witnessed many grown men push away their plates half eaten because they were unable to finish the huge portions. The Nest is a place for the hugriest of the hungry, the friendliest of the friendly and the ever searching bargain hunter. The skimp on the price but not on the quality of the food and service. I have yet to try them out on one of their weekend dinners, but I have been assured that if I do, I will never regret it.
The Nest is a must for those traveling in the North Alabama area and if you visit them, I am sure you will thank me later.
