I am not a "greasy spoon" fan but I stopped in to Marcy's Diner one day, just to try it out. The food was fine, nothing special but nothing you want to throw up afterward either. I will say that the service, if you're not a regular, is HORRIBLE.
I went in there, sat down at the breakfast bar and browsed the menu. Before the waitress even took my order, she took the order of a guy that came in a few minutes after me, had his food prepared for him and served it. All I wanted was a sandwich; it was ridiculous!
It took about a half hour to get a grilled cheese sandwich, meanwhile that guy was in and out before I even HAD my food. Sadly, it wasn't even busy.
Maybe if you are a regular, this is not a problem you run into... but, if you are just going in for a quick bite (and don't have one of their favorite customers with you), don't plan on it being a quick or satisfying experience.
It's saddens me to say that it was memorable... unfortunately, not in a good way. In the way restaurants hope they aren't, Marcy's is unforgettable!

An awesome place to get breakfast before heading off to class... depending, of course, on how much you had to drink the night before. Pretty greasy, not so good on a sensitive stomach.

Just about the same sublime place I remember from my youth in the late '80s, though happily without the ambient cigarette smoke (Maine banned it a few years back) and, sadly, without the constant high-stakes cribbage games for actual simoleons (pretty sure that was illegal then, as now) ... one or two of the booths actually had cribbage holes bored out of the tables, with oversized pegs available from the tart-tongued eponymous owner (who sold the place a bunch of years back). Still, some of the old staff and customers remain. You used to be able to get a chili-and-cheese omelet, homefries and toast for $2.99, and they didn't skimp on the portions. This was back in 1990 or so, but the prices are still pretty dang cheap. I miss Marcy's (and Marcy) since I left Portland.

Great little place with good rock & roll music playing & bikers manning the grill. Go early. It's a small place & by 8 am on a Saturday there was a line. The French toast is superb as are the home fries. Service is excellent.
