As a former waitress/fry-cook,I rate every breakfast by their home fries. If they are done on the griddle to crispy/tender perfection, you get an A+ in my book. If you cheat and deep-fry them, you fail. If you do that in old, nasty oil, you may as well shut down immediately.

On both my visits Pinecone they deep-fried their home fries. My bacon was also overcooked/curly/flavorless and seemed deep-fried, though they insisted it wasn't.

My wife and I had breakfast at the Pine Cone for the first time just yesterday, 7/17/2007. It was awesome. Ususally we have breakfast at the big chain restaurants but grew tired of the bland and processed foods, so decided to try a "hole in the wall". The Pine Cone has very fresh food, very tasty, and served in a very friendly atmosphere. We had a Western Omlette (with the mandatory 3 pancakes and REAL MAPLE SYRUP!!), a side of hash browns, and S.O.S. over biscuits. The S.O.S. on biscuits was HUGE and the biscuits fluffy and tasty. Everything was perfectly cooked and the perfect comfort food. If I could give the Pine Cone a rating of "10 eggs", I would. The bill was nice too; very reasonable. Go to the Pine Cone! - JDW

This place is actually located in the quaint University Place-part of Tacoma. Family-type restaurant with good greasy diner food and ample seating. My favorite is the corned beef hash. Several bus boys and servers refill coffee so your cup never reaches empty. Atmosphere is very friendly. My grandfather has been a regular here for years and eats here at least 4 times a week.
