*Not* your standard breakfast joint. You order your meal at the diner counter from a busy but courteous lady, whose husband is the head cook. They have homemade pastries at the counter, so you can start your meal right off with a little tasty carbo loading, help yourself to coffee, and sit down for a short wait. The thing that hooked us the first time was the wondrous buckwheat pancakes; I've never had such tender ones in my life, wish I had the recipe (butter? sour cream? who knows).

They regularly have oyster po' boys and fish on the menu, and unusual ingredients in their scrambles and omelettes. Our kids for years have split the enormous pancakes topped with fresh fruit. A Berkeley original - we're loyal neighborhood fans.

This family-run breakfast (and lunch) joint is informal and bustling but courteous staff and pleasant atmosphere. Standard breakfast fare, tasty and with a homemade touch. Coffee (self-serve refills) is good and I love the blueberry pancakes. Okay for families too.
