We went to Besaw's for the first time last Saturday morning, and were very impressed. I had eggs benedict, with some of the thickest, best ham I've tasted in a long time. My husband's omelette was perfect. Service was exceptional and the coffee was great! This has become our regular place for breakfast.

Success has spoiled Besaws. It used to be one of the very best breakfast places in Portland, now it's merely average--and just barely that. The food has lost it's edge and it's just not worth the trouble of putting up with the crowd. Last time there, they didn't ask what sort of bread I wanted, but rather simply brought me wheat toast of the Wonderbread sort.

Well...I just got home a quick getaway up north to Portland. I had done my research and took recommendations and the two restaurants that kept coming up for breakfast were Byways cafe and Besaw's....
We went to Besaw's on Friday around 11am and although it was busy, we had no wait. The service was great.
I ordered the Maurice's eggs...with Brie and scallions and tomato's. It was good but I don't think I would do the brie and egg thing again, it was too creamy for me, but the flavor was very good. My friend ordered the lox with dill scramble. We both agreed it was dill overload. I think with a little less fresh dill it would have been a great balance with the salmon. We might have just had an herb happy cook!
The coffee was FANTASTIC and I am happy to say the waiter came by every time I was thinking..."Hmmm...it's almost time for more coffee".
Everyone around us was eating french toast or pancakes....I think next trip I will return for those since the locals seem to like it so much.
