I don't normally write reviews however, I decided to write this review to spare others the inconvenience my family was put through today. My relatives- Senior Citizens drove over from PeEl & LaGrande & N. Seattle to Federal Way. Tuesday @ noontime. My husband & I thought that The Black Bear Restaurant would be a good spot for this get together. We arrived & waited 15 min.-(no big deal) for a table. We were escorted to two separate booths being told that they could not accommodate all 7 of us @ that time.. I noticed 4 steps away a dinning area not being used that could very easily remedy this. The waitress politely explained that this area was presently closed and could not be used due to it being a longer distance for our server to walk,( 4 steps, I inquired)? She said that the server doesn't work that area and this would be a manager call. I said ok perhaps the manager could remedy this. The manager held firm was unbending and not very helpful wouldn't let us sit there. He said that he didn't want to open this up because other large groups would also want to use this.So, we went to another restaurant down the street and was accommodated. My question is:

1 Is your policy not to accommodate other large groups, even if it means to open up another section?
2. This was a Tuesday afternoon approx. 1pm and I don't understand why the manager thought he would be bombarded w/ large groups @ that time of day?

I didn't mention any names for my purpose for writing this was for your manager to be more customer service orientated -(the waitress tried to do what she could).

I thought this place was very average all the way around. Nothing major to complain about or that would keep me from going back, but nothing that would get me to go back either. Honestly, I thought the cons outweighed the pros, though.

Pro - Large portions. I was definitely full when I left and I can put away some breakfast.

Con - It was lots of food, but mediocre at best. One of the biggest biscuits I've ever had, but it wasn't very good at all.

Pro - Wide variety on the menu.

Con - It might seem stupid, but the menu was overly complicated to me. Too much full combo meal stuff going on. Just about everything has a "comes with..." at the end. I tend to like things simple. Instead I was figuring out how to get the stuff I wanted and not the stuff I didn't.

Con - Here's another one that might seem stupid, but I thought the booths were really uncomfortable. They are horseshoe type booths and something about the way they are curved just didn't work.

Overall, it's a chain restaurant that has their gimmick down. When you don't know where else to eat, they'll do, but if you really want a good breakfast, don't bother.

Another great place where the line consistently stretches out the door. Huge portions of fantastic food (including giant homemade sausage patties). Most breakfasts come with the option of giant buttermilk biscuits...Oh yeah.

YUM! The Black Bear Diner has awesome food! Most of it is "homemade"! One of the best breakfast platters I've ever had. The service was decent (nothing to brag about), but what it lacked was made up for in great taste! The portions are huge. The menu has something for just about everyone- even health nuts. :)

Must try: the homemade biscuits, pancakes, and any or all of the pastries!

Word of the wise, if your party is bigger than three- ask for a table not a booth! They have a funny "U" shaped booth that does not allow much room for the people on the inside.
