Heard other people say they were impressed with the food at Lo Lo's Chicken and Waffles so decided to see for myself. It is small and I arrived apparently just before the line began to form. Ate at the "counter" at the window as you first enter the building because it was the only seat available. Watched people sitting in their cars or leaning up against the cars parked out front as they waited their turn for seating. I can't say the prices, considering the side portions sizes, are even average. The chicken skin was good but the chicken itself wasn't anything to rave about. Grits might be good for Arizona but don't compare to the real deal you get in Atlanta. The string beans and potatoes were tasty, however, the portion was small and there were only two bite sized pieces of potato. Catfish, again, ok but not like it's not anywhere as good as Soul On The Bayeaux in Houston. The red velvet cake was slightly burned on the outside. Service....slow, slow, slow. Overall, I'll give an OK because it wasn't pretty bad. But it isn't where I'd spend many meals if I make the choice.

Small so expect waits as word is finally out about Lo-Lo's...been operating since 2002 but it's becoming more and more a gotta goto downtown spot...why, I can't say that it is consistent because both my wife and I have had "average" meals there...yet an average meal there is most often better than CoCos or IHOPs....hours aren't necessarily breakfast hours ie open at 10 am....a more 'southern' approach to breakfast...best waffles in town based on my experiences and there's been a couples times recently that I thought Are They Slipping until I realized that even so, still best in town. Last time we did mid afternoon chicken and waffles 'breakfast' and the chicken was a bit too salty. The beans and rice have always been good as has the grits. You like red velvet cake. They got it. You like cheesy eggs, they got it. Service has never been stellar - yet based on experiences, you get used it. Not really a "family" restaurant, but I wouldn't call it a greasy spoon. Someone else should see the light and pick a spot elsewhere in the valley so that LoLo's gets some competition with regards to the Chicken & Waffles approach to breakfast - hear such a place may exist in the west valley???????? Until I find it and see if that's true, LoLo's will continue to be a frequent stop for us.
