The Sun Room Cafe was an instant hit from the moment I walked in the door. Interestingly enough, the first time I did this, it was too busy to get a table, so my breakfast buddy and I had to settle for a bagel next door. Anyway, the smells and sights were enough to lure us back for a second attempt the following week.
We weren't disappointed.
We were quickly seated, and coffee was served almost as fast as our rumps could find the chairs. Our waitress had a great up-beat, yet relaxing attitude, and I felt immediately welcome at our comfortable sun-lit table.
Looking around (before even noticing the menu) I took in a smorgasbord of dining choices, visible at each nearby table. From colorful omelets, to decedent stacks of flap-jacks adorned with glistening syrup, the multitude of ordering options overwhelmed me. The menu didn't help much with this dilemma - providing additional options. (How many types of omelets can one place serve? I don't know that I ever want to find out!)
We both ordered omelets (Denver and Nova Lox), which were quickly served with a smile - but not before our coffee was promptly refilled. They were each served with perfect, lightly fried and seasoned skillet-potatoes. These potatoes were worth the trip alone... Their slightly crispy, savory surfaces give way to a surprisingly soft and flavorful inner potato goodness. The omelets themselves were wonderfully prepared, with a perfect balance between seasonings, fillings, and natural "eggy" overtones. I really enjoyed how the omelet's texture flowed from a fluffy, hot center with evenly distributed contents, to a more dense outer layer that split with a pleasant sensation when cut with a fork. Each was a near-perfect half-moon shape to boot - a feast for the eyes!
The coffee was wonderful - Perfectly brewed, hot, and requiring no dressing up with cream/sugar to perfectly complement the meal. Having said this, my second cup allowed me the chance to savor their cream, which did tend to mask the already well-tamed (not weak) breakfast blend flavor of the brew. However, those who take their cup with sugar and cream will not be disappointed, they just shouldn't expect a exuberant or bold flavor.
Overall, the price was well worth the quality of food, and the service left me smiling.
I will most definitely return to try more of what the Sun Room Cafe has to offer.

Best Pancakes in Madison, bar none. You go to the counter to order and pick up your food so not much to be said for service. Price is good, but sides are more than they should be. there is a very expansive menu with smoothies and nice coffee drinks. Great upstairs view and nice people. Its a bit hippy so if your in to that its great. Again, get the pancakes, their amazing.
