As one who spends a good deal of time driving the northeast corridor finding a good place to eat is an important part of my existence. The Blue Colony Diner located off I-84 in Newtown CT near Danbury is a roadside oasis. The Blue Colony is a truly great diner and a stand-out in all respects. As for breakfast The Blue Colony shines in this area. I always measure a diner by their home fries. When a diner gets this right you know they are on top of their game. What’s a good home fry? Crispy and golden brown on the outside, moist on the inside, balance of onion and salt, non greasy. If you’re hungry for breakfast, this place is a slam-dunk. Excellent coffee also.
Having great food is just one part of the equation. What’s worthy to note is that the Blue Colony shines in the intangible aspects as well. The wait staff and manager-owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, welcome and satisfied. You get a distinct feeling that the workers and management operate in an atmosphere of conviviality and harmony. This aspect translates to happy waitresses and their attitudes toward customers. Given how busy this place is it is inevitable that on occasion things will go wrong. What I look for is consistency as well as the law of averages and in that respect, the Blue Colony has been remarkable. The waitresses are all friendly in a homespun way, efficient in their duties and seem happy to be there. When not serving they are cleaning and polishing the surfaces indicating a pride of place. In terms of physical appearance, this diner is spotless. The place is very clean and very light and airy. The decoration is also very pleasing in a diner-like way.
The owners of the Blue Colony deserve the success that they have received as a result of their sincere dedication to their customers and meticulous attention to detail. While there is no shortage of diners in the greater New York region, diners that are as well-run as Blue Colony are few and far between. My hat’s off to the Greek family that runs this place, the Blue Colony is a gift to humanity and a place that exudes true warmth and soul. This isn't a place that takes advantage of travelers as the bulk of their customers are locals and locals are the best judge of what pleases their stomachs and wallet.
If you’re heading up to visit New England colleges, fortify yourself at this diner, you will be happy you did.

We stopped here for lunch first week in July on the way back home to Virginia after visiting relatives in New Hampshire. I have never in my life experienced such rude behavior from the waitresses. My mother-in-law asked the waitress what the soup of the day was, and was told "I have no idea, I can't remember all that stuff, look at the menu." The waitress took our order and we didn't see her again for another 25 minutes after she brought the food. No refills on the drinks, couldn't get extra napkins, just an overall horrible experience. Food was great, waitresses all need to be fired on the spot.

Huge ripoff...probably because they're right off the highway in ritzy Fairfield county. Cheese costs extra in an omlet? Please! Food is just average. On the plus side, the place is recently remodeled and most servers are nice.
