I had the eggs cochon, total winner! Huge stacks of pulled pork on a biscuit with eggs and hollandaise. Got a taste of both the candied bacon and the pork sausage, both first rate! Very generous with the coffee refills. Would definitely return.

Great food, reasonable prices, beautiful interior, interesting story, friendly staff - perfect! Get here whatever it takes. You might need to wait in line if you're a little bit late (past 9:45am), but it is definitely worth it.

I just found out that The Ruby Slipper Cafe has started serving Breakfast all day!! At lunchtime you can choose either Lunch or Breakfast.

If you go on a weekend and they are serving Crabcakes, definitely get them. They are "maryland-style" so lots of delicious lump crabmeat, seasoning and a touch of breading to hold it all together. They serve them either with hollandaise or remoulade. Divine.

I really love the Migas, which is a brunch item, but after having the Crabcakes I'm torn about which one I'll have next time!!

And I also love the beautiful mimosas. Yum

I had heard good things about this new breakfast joint but just recently made the trek across town to the Mid City neighborhood which had been destroyed by the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the restaurant. The building had previously been an old corner store but you would never had guessed it had 6 to 7 feet of water. The owners did an incredible job renovating and I instantly felt like I had stepped back in time. The experience only continued once I was greeted by a friendly hostess and seated right away. The menu had many of your basic breakfast items with three special brunch items. It all looked wonderful and I quickly decided on a dish called "Eggs Blackstone" which consisted of home-made foccacia bread with applewood smoked bacon, slice of creole tomato, poached eggs, and a very delicious home-made hollandaise sauce. The Ruby Slipper Mimosa was wonderful with its beautiful red and orange coloring. I believe the server said they use pomegranite juice and orange juice. Needless to say I have been back three weekends in a row and have enjoyed "Shrimp and grits" and this past weekend, possibly the best crabcake I have ever eaten. I had my girlfriends with me this past weekend and even the "Basic" breakfast included perfectly cooked eggs with a splash of crushed peppercorn cooked into them, and the bacon is to die for. It seems that the word is getting out because there can be somewhat of a wait on the weekends, but you can pick up a very nice cup of coffee or a brunch cocktail at the bar while you wait.
