Not just awesome, TOTALLY AWESOME! My favorite breakfast spot in the universe. Giant servings of carbs cooked in bacon-favored grease cannot be beat by the finest caviar, champagne, or pate. So many creative combinations of potatoes, meat, cheese, and a little veg thrown in for color. One full breakfast can easily feed a family of four. I don't know how this place makes a profit. All cooked items are made from scratch right before your eyes on the sizzling griddle.
The 'building' is an actual olde tyme 1920s railroad car complete with the original wooden ceiling. Seating is tight, so get here early and don't bring a group of friends - you'll never sit together (all seats are at the counter or tables for two squeezed on the aisle). The bathroom is actually smaller than an airplane's. Claustrophobic folks should phone in a take out order.
Service can be rather snarky. These gals aren't really waitress, they are college students with an attitude, or actresses hoping to be discovered in the middle of PA. Who knows what's bugging them, but whatever it is, they tend to act huffy if you remind them that you said 'no onions' or whatever.
We've eaten breakfast here six or eight times and finally, finally managed to digest a monster breakfast in time to have room for a late, late lunch last time we were in town for the day. The burgers, OMG, the burgers! Never let it end!

This tiny little diner serves up breakfast in a big way! Omelettes bigger than your head, pancakes as big as hubcaps!
The owner's mantra, serving the whole wide world, 23 at a time.
Fantastic specialty breakfasts and omelettes.
They offer everything breakfast and they do it all day. Open from 5AM to 2PM they serve up the best home made creamed chip beef and corned beef hash around.
The prices are ridiculously low for the portion size and it is something to experience, but plan on waiting in line to get in or call it in, pick it up and take it home!
The Plowman offers up corned beef hash, with 3 eggs, home fries and a side of creamed chip beef to spoon over your home fries or on top of your toast or english muffin. Everything was perfectly done, the corned beef hash was allowed to crisp on the grill, the chipped beef was in a perfect home made white gravy and crispy home fries with bits of onions. $5.90 for a huge plate of food and worth taking home the leftovers for late night munchies.
The Scattered & Smothered is all your favorites-- ham chunks, diced onions, and home fries, tossed together and grilled up right then topped with american cheese served up all melty with 2 eggs any style on top. Mine were perfectly done over lights. For $5.50 the plate was covered from edge to edge!
And The Deluxe -- steals a trick out of my book, the creamiest scrambled eggs ever because they scramble in cream cheese along with, ham, mushrooms, and green peppers. Every dish comes with either hand cut home fries or real traditional shredded hash browns (not the freezer kind) or potato cakes.
Pa dutch specialties include scrapple, smoked sausage, pork roll and apple butter.
For those with a sweet tooth try the home made Cinnamon Raisin Toast, yes it is thick cut and delicious.
They do offer eggbeaters, egg whites only and other healthier fare, but why? it's breakfast! I'll eat healthy at home.
You are likely to hear some colorful banter as the owner is working the open air grill behind the counter himself.
Don't wear you best wool coat cause you will walk out with the magnificent smell of a classic greasy spoon clinging to you. And if you know what I mean by that, then you are true breakfast champs in my book and Letterman's is a must try -- If you head to Kutztown for one of it's traditional summer festivals, make Letterman's a stop, it's a little easier to get in over the summer, as it's a college town and the students are home for the summer. The gigantic portions of good food at reasonable prices draws students and "townies" alike.
