We arrived about 10:00 on Sunday morning, October 11, 2009. The Diner was nearly empty. There was a waitress behind the counter loudly lamenting being overworked (we assume - her words were "he's killing me") and another waitress shouted "it will be a 5 minute wait" to us while we were looking at an empty counter and empty tables, clean and ready to go...needless to say, we left and had a wonderful breakfast at the very crowded Wagon Wheel Restaurant where we were seated immediately by a smiling waitress.

My husband and I went to have breakfast on Saturday morning. We are locals and we have been to the Truckee Diner many times before. We were expecting to see Donna, our favorite waitress, but it could've been her day off. She has always made the diner enjoyable and her service was always first class.

The Diner was our favorite place before it became "Jax". We will never go back again. The service sucked, the servers were young and inexperienced and didn't care. It took them 15 minutes to even ask us if we wanted a menu. They served us cold coffee. We were seated 1 hour before we got our breakfast and even that was cold. Another couple asked us if there was another place to have breakfast since the service and coffee at "Jax" were both bad. We sent them to "Smokeys". They got up and left "Jax" in disgust. My husband and I should've got up and left also but we didn't. We stayed and got cold eggs, pancakes and limp bacon. It really sucked.

Never again!

The staff was energetic including the bussers. The heavy set cook was in sight of our table and was real busy. He seemed more interested in the young staff, women in particular. My sister pointed out the girls were all attractive . We got some deserts that were absolutely amazing! We will definitely return regardless of the perv cook!

I understand that this diner just opened, but it's an authentic blast from the past.
My husband and I had a cinnamon bun, coffee, and chocolate chip pancakes. What a surprise to have our food delivered by the chef! We were there early and the place was really quiet. Our server was friendly and seemed sincerely happy we were there.

I do a lot of cooking so I tend to be somewhat critical. That said, we found the breakfast to be well presented, imaginative and good tasting. The service was friendly and attentive but not overly so. The best thing I can say about any place is we will return.

My wife had Huevos Montana, a take off on Huevos Rancheros, eggs on good corn bread in place of a tortilla. I had the Morning Addiction, eggs on hash brown squares, avocado and sliced Canadian bacon.

The portions are not huge but enough for moderate eaters. Since this was our first time I can't speak to the other offerings but from what I observed other patrons seemed satisfied.

The cooks are real chefs not just hash slingers. A truly unique place.
