Visit 1/9/10: I said that I would give Sava's a second chance after my lackluster experience a couple months ago, so we made plans to go with a brunch buddy. The three of us arrived on a Saturday morning around 10AM and there was only one other table occupied. I noticed they changed their menu- which I think has a better layout than their previous version.
We decided to order 3 items and go splitsies all around. We shared a Nova Crepe (eggs & salmon), a Spinach and Brie Crepe and French Toast. There was a decent portion of the French toast- several slices on moderately thick bread. I did enjoy the use of eggs in the crepes which made for an omelette-like experience folded up in a thin pancake. While the brie and spinach crepe was full of creamy-goodness, it was unanimous that the salmon crepe was the #1 dish on the table. I would recommend it and will probably be back to enjoy it again myself.
Overall, it was a better experience than my first visit. We did feel a little rushed even though there were hardly any other customers. Although it was a little cold sitting near the windows- they could probably stand to insulate- I'd say I;m warming up to Sava's.

Visit 11/22/09: I was curious to try Sava's now that it was operating in the space formally occupied by Zanzibar. They didn't change much of the atmosphere- it is still two levels with a bar near the entrance. The fresh fruit smoothies seemed to be popular (although I didn't try one myself). The place is very well-lit with giant windows floor to ceiling- the wood floors and antique sideboards give this place some charm (although not very different from Zanzibar's charm).
It was a cold, Sunday morning and I was not surprised we had to wait for a table to open up (around 10AM). We were seated next to the kitchen- which I don't usually mind in a breakfast joint because it means your eggs are hot. There was quite a bit of yelling coming from the kitchen- I don't expect it to be a library in the back of a busy restaurant on Sunday morning, but I could have done with a few less F-bombs and a few more coffee refills.
My dining companion and I ordered a sweet and a salty- the stuffed vanilla French toast and the breakfast burrito. I was not impressed by the toast- there was no vanilla flavor and the bread itself wasn't very sweet.
The breakfast burrito was not bad- although the different ingredients were not distributed equally as one side was mostly salsa and the other side was mostly beans. I suppose this would be less of an issue if you were eating the entire burrito yourself, but we both emerged from an eating frenzy thinking, "where was the salsa?" and "where were the beans?"
It was extremely busy, but that did not make up for the fact that they did not refill our coffees. The waitress "did us a favor" by automatically splitting the bill for us and handing us both a piece of paper. While a breakfast blog isn't really the place to get into heteronormativity, I would expect that if I saw two girls sharing brunch in Ann Arbor in 2009 and giving each other googley-eyes I might just ask to see if they want separate bills.
It wasn't the worst food of my life or the worst service of my life- I think we just had a series of unfortunate incidents that led to a less than satisfying experience. The food wasn't overly impressive but it was considerably less expensive than other places in Ann Arbor. I will probably give them another chance just to check.
