Best hash and eggs and biscuits and gravy I have had in a very long time. The hash is almost all meat and I ordered a side of hash-browns to add to it so it doubled the size and was still chock full of meat. The sausage gravy for the (homemade, huge, delicious) biscuits tasted like "cream of sausage soup" with judicious amounts of black pepper and tons of bits of meat. Really great! All the egg dishes were cooked correctly and eggs ordered soft arrived soft, dry arrived dry. Fantastic coffee (intelligentsia) and fresh made donuts. The bread they do not bake is from a great Chicago bakery (labriola).
Tiny place with quick turnover so no long waits (less than 10 minutes) even if full. Friendly, local staff. Huge portions of great food.
We stayed a town or two over in a hotel (in for family reunion) with free breakfast but decided to try this place instead and was soooo glad we did. Really a treat and for those who really consider breakfast done correctly worthy of travel I would say this one is it. We were 10 miles away but drove all three days.
Pancakes and such are served with REAL Maple syrup, not corn syrup junk!

Eggshells is the kind of neighborhood breakfast hangout that was sorely needed in Lake Zurich. I love independent restaurants instead of chains and this one is very good.

The owners are nearly always there to greet you and the food and service are really good. My favorite is the homemade corned beef hash with huge chunks of corned beef. All egg entrees come with a choice of 2 sides and there a lots of choices including homemade breads, bagels and donut holes. There are also healthier choices such as sliced tomatoes for those so inclined.

There is also a very decent lunch menu including huge handmade sandwiches, angus burgers and a few salads.

And, of course, there are a ton of homemade donuts and pastries to eat in or take out by the dozen. All delicious.

I only wish they'd move to a larger location since they are so popular!
