While there was an interesting menu, not just your normal breakfast fare, the servings were tiny. Loved the scones but they were microscopic. My bacon was very burnt. And, the corned beef hash was simply cubed potatoes with flecks of corned beef. Really awful. Would never go back.

Home Plate is a wonderful and delicious place to eat breakfast--there is often a line to get in on weekends. Their cornmeal waffle is the best I've ever had--and their fresh fruit is excellent, lots of blackberries, cantaloupe, strawberries--no throwaway fruit like honeydew. The scones are house made and delicious, the coffee strong and hot, the service good. I love Home Plate and my friend says their BLT sandwich is the most delicious ever.

Awesome breakfast. It started off with an amazing fresh scone with great jam. Then we ordered the rack of lamb and eggs which was delicious along with the Eggs benedict. Great food, great service, it was a great time.

I love this place! The owner is fantastic, sometimes passing out samples of items he may serve and then asking your opinion. The food is fresh, wonderful daily specials, and food that can be made to exact specifications--the best ever! I travel extensively and go to many restaurants. This little diner in the Marina district is the best place in San Francisco, hand down, for breakfast.

reading different reviews and one friend telling me about the scones, I finally tried Home Plate. Walk in and only two tables occuppied on a weekday, so no wait. Many things on the menu, but I order bacon and eggs. A warm small scone with strawberry jam is served first. Yes, my friend was right, scone was very good as the wait for the food was quick. Bacon and eggs were ok, but the potato pancake with some taste of orange wasn't my cup of tea, so the food was so so. Coffee refills were fine, scone was good and was thinking about ordering a second as they are only 65 cents but I passed. This place is average except for the scones and coffee.

Never judge a book by it's cover. If I hadn't read how good of a breakfast place this was before visiting the area, I wouldn't have picked Home Plate from its curb appeal. But the breakfast couldn't have been more delicious, except, maybe if they'd added famous San Francisco Sourdough french toast to the menu. Homemade preserves accompany the warm, complimentary scones. Fresh carrot juice is available, as well as others, and the blintzes were delicious!!! Hope you give it a try.

Upscale locals (Marina District) claim this place as their own. It's on the northern edge of San Francisco, not near the tourist areas. Outsiders are beginning to discover it, though. Go for the gourmet omelettes and the excellent pancakes/waffles. Homemade scones, muffins, and sausages. Very busy. Cramped eating area. Great food. Well worth it.
