The company classification of "Independent / Undefined" is a catch-all for several cereals in our database. This category includes 1) cereals from smaller companies with a near-national distribution; 2) cereals whose manufacturer we've been unable to determine; and 3) cereals that had a very limited distribution or foreign origin but still warranted inclusion in the database because they were fun or otherwise interesting.

If smaller company makes a variety of cereals, those cereals are often grouped together here under one heading. For instance, Bakery On Main produces several granolas. They are found here under the single heading "Bakery On Main Gourmet Granolas".
